COU515 Counseling Grief & Loss

3 credits

This course examines the theological, psychological, and pastoral dimensions of grief and loss within a biblical counseling framework. Students engage Scripture—particularly biblical lament—alongside contemporary perspectives on grief to develop a nuanced understanding of the grieving process as a complex, non-linear experience. Emphasis is placed on assessing diverse grief responses, addressing common misconceptions, and applying biblically grounded counseling strategies in real-world contexts. Through case analysis, reflective engagement, and practical application, students learn to guide individuals through loss with theological clarity, emotional sensitivity, and wise pastoral care, pointing toward enduring hope in Christ.
