PHI130 Introduction to Ethics

This course is designed as an introduction to ethical thought and its application to contemporary decision-making. Examination of issues such as those involved in reproduction, abortion, infanticide, euthanasia, genetic engineering, biomedical research, divorce, homosexuality, LGBT, capital punishment, civil disobedience, war, social justice, and the environment may be explored. The desired outcome is for students to demonstrate critical thinking about such issues and to develop skills to articulate positions about moral and social problems from their own personal worldviews.

PSY101 Introduction to Psychology

This course provides an overview of psychology as a scientific discipline that studies behavior and mental processes. Students will explore foundational concepts and research methods while examining major areas within psychology, including development, learning, cognition, emotion, motivation, personality, mental health, and social behavior. Emphasis will be placed on understanding how psychological science applies to real-world experiences and decision-making.

PSY130 Human Performance & Resilience

This course equips students with an evidence-informed mental skills toolbox to improve focus, emotional regulation, stress tolerance, teamwork, and recovery in physically rigorous and high-stakes contexts (e.g., military, police/fire, EMS/rescue, rescue diving, wilderness response). Students build a personal performance plan synchronized with their concurrent PT training, practice mental skills in “pressure” scenarios, and demonstrate growth through verified drills, reflections, and a final applied intervention for self or a team.

SLS150 Foundations of Lifelong Learning

This course emphasizes lifelong learning principles, personal growth, and strategies for continual development in academic and professional life.

SLS167 Foundations of Learning

This course is an introduction to learning styles and strategies that provide a foundation for a lifelong pursuit of personal growth and leadership. Students will learn to identify and leverage their own personal learning style, to cultivate a personal culture of learning, and acquire core skills to accelerate dynamic learning that will become foundational for leading others effectively.
